Just needs some sill-strips.

It's the same bloke selling that £15K Candy 3500. I know which one I'd go for.

Might have been nice if he'd let the rest of us know what he thinks lets it down those 2 points then.

I have to agree it does look nice though. Shame it's not a Mk111 auto. Maybe that's what lets it down.

That's beautiful. I'd certainly prefer that over the P6. Lovely motor.

One point per sill strip.

Oh no, I like it more because it isn't a MkIII or an auto. That would be too similar to my 'B'.

I'd do away with the radio-panel though. Never liked 'em!

Sorry, I'm with Harvey here. A MkIII is definitely the ultimate P5 inluding the V8's. Although I'd be tempted by a manual. I do understand Harvey's choice of an Auto though. Changing gear by whatever means seems just so wasted on that engine though...

The manual - despite the archaic gearbox - is fabulous to drive. These are cars that will apparently do 100mph and you can still hear the clock ticking.

Absolutely beautiful.

Adrian had once said driving on the motorway, he was wondering why he was running out of acceleration at 60mph - reason was he couldn't hear the engine revving due to him still being in 3rd gear. Of course in a P5.

So much cheaper than a V8 .
What would a Mk 3 have that this one doesn't except maybe a few more BHP?

Did the Weslake head come in on the Mk3 or before? That boosted the performance a bit, plus the autos got the BW35 instead of the DG box.

The Mk 3's have the Weslake head, the BW35 and the same interior as the V8's. So you get all the added luxury as well as the finest version of the silky smooth straight six. Don't do too many miles though, the consumption is likely to be horrifying!

Looks fantastic, and how I hoped my 3 litre would eventually look. I'd love a P5 again sometime.

MkII's had the Weslake head. I've always been doubtful of the 'clock ticking' claim of any car. Possibly in a Rolls, I couldn't say (though the Silver Cloud I rode in once wasn't that quiet & had a clunky gearchange too). But at 100mph in any P5, the wind noise alone is enough to drown out the clock not to mention speeds well below that. I've owned my 'B' since 1985 & have never heard the clock at anything above tick over. Above tick, no tock. I think it's just an exaggeration by loving or aspirational owners. At rest I'm sure there are quite a few quality cars that you can hear the clock in, but anything else, IMHO, a myth.
As for the 'added' luxury of the MkIII, I'm not sure that's justified. The MkII individual front seats are the same as in my 110 & they are supremely comfortable (with separate armrests too) & so was the bench seat in my Mk1a. I think 'modified' luxury would be closer. The P5 was always a luxury car.

Already got a spare I'm afraid, though has the MkII got the chrome around the wood? My Mk1a did, another car where the clock was inaudible on the road.

You can't hear it in my 110 either.

I see that the gloveboxes don't have the trim & the cars been pulled from the auction for some reason. Maybe the offer was accepted.

The Overfinch P5 is back on again I see: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-P5-B-CO ... 2505wt_932
