Somehow i expect all those things happening so i NEVER just hand the keys.
I just stand by and wait patiently to answer to questions that i know will be coming.
"How does the bonnet open?" "How do you turn on the lights?" etc.
Thankfully young technicians always show respect and always ask when they are not sure for something and i 've yet to come across someone dumb enough to try to start it by the glovebox lock.

I should add to this one the issue a few years ago when Duncan was pulled over by the local gendarmerie here as he'd apparently left his spare wheel on the boot.

He had to demonstrate to the young officer of the law that it's actually fitted there. I kid not

Yup, most times I get my TC back from the WOF and the glovebox is inexplicably locked. :? Also had it fail on the lhs park lights not working numerous times which requires a demonstration of the switchgear.
It takes some time to find a good Wof tester, they are often so rough. The place I took my V8 years ago, I would always get it back with the handbrake wrenched to the absolute limit of it's travel. :x

I was told at Luton Transport show on the weekend that you can only throw so much money at an old car

These are ok though, all the panels bolt on, even the wings.

I was in my SD1 Vitesse

Did the guy walk round your car kicking the tyres while telling you this :?:

I'm quite lucky as, at my MOT garage, the guy who runs the place used to work on P6's when he was a lad. So don't have any problems with glovebox ignition or misssing bonnet latches.

I never knew that :D. Typical Rover... When in my daughter's Fiat Panda the beam indicator light IS very distracting, so much so that I try not to use beam  .

Today I had a lady inform me she had an identical car to mine 30yrs ago, except it was a manual, with manual steering, and she had brown side stripes and roof painted on after purchase. She said it was very economical getting mid 40's MPG, she seemed astounded when I said I only averaged 24 at 60 mph, 18 normally, and under 15 when on a run with the naughty boys. Apparantly I'm driving it wrong. Oh how I wish I had a pair of her rose tinted glasses

I get that sort of crap with my MGC:

Goon: Why has your MGB got a bonnet bulge?
me: Because it's an MGC and has a 6 cylinder engine so need the bulge to clear it.
Goon: Who made it then?
Me: MG (usually point at badge at this point)
Goon: is it a V8? (see first answer!)
Me:

Mind you, I do sometimes tell people that it's a V12 Jaguar engine and that I put it in myself.

should tell them it's a hybrid and that it's got the worlds most advanced drivetrain - the bulge hides the battery.
