I have a series 1 V8 and the ride is spoiled by excessive wind noise through the front 1/4 lights. I have replaced the rubber surrounds with new rubbers from SG Walker, but to now avail. Help greatly appreciated. The quarter lights may have had replacement glass in the past. Was also thinking about changing to series 2 winders. Has any one done this? and is it an easy job? Thanks. Hi Jim,

I have a series 2 with the winders for the 1/4 light.

I had to replace the whole door because it was rotten including the glass frame. I got a very good S1 door so used that.

Any way I simply cut the mechanism off and welded it to the s1. I had a few problems, firstly you window will have a sping and nut on the bottom, which means you also need a donor glass frame and beacause you will have a hole in your glass you will need the glass as well (or leave it for extra security).

I tried to swap the 1/4 light glass and frame but the hinge pin was in a different place. I got round this by using the s1 frame and welded the Spindle? of the series 2 on to it. also had to enlarge the hole for it to fit through.

The winder version is good and I think you can get a tighter seal.

You could just drop in a donor frame complete with drop glass, altough a bit fiddley is the easiest. I couldn't do this because the rot was so bad. You should maybe be prepared to make some repair to the glass frame whilst it is out because you don't want to do it twice. Is also a good chance to do door/glass seals.
